Library Committee

The Library Committee is a committee of Senate charged with responsibility to oversee the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the University’s policies, procedures, practices and guidelines aimed at realizing the University’s goals and objectives on the provision and support of library and information services and infrastructure.

The day-to-day operational oversight of the management of the Library and Information Services (including branches & staffing) is the role and responsibility of the Library Management and is effected through the management reporting structures of the University.

DVC: Research & Development (Chairperson)
Director: Library Services ex officio
Director: Information Technology ex officio or nominee
Deputy Director: Library Services ex officio
Head Librarian: Technical Services ex officio
Head Librarian: User Services & Information Commons ex officio
Head Librarian: User Services & Research Commons ex officio
Head: Cory Library ex officio or nominee
Chairperson: Cory Library Advisory Board ex officio
CHERTL – 1 member representing CHERTL
Senate – 4 members representing the Senate
Faculty of Humanities – 2 members representing the Faculty
Faculty of Science - 1 member representing the Faculty
Faculty of Law - 1 member representing the Faculty
Faculty of Pharmacy - 1 member representing the Faculty
Faculty of Commerce - 1 member representing the Faculty
Faculty of Education - 1 member representing the Faculty
SRC – 2 members representing the SRC
Postgraduate Students Liaison Committee (PGSLC) – 1 member representing the PGSLC
NTEU – 1 member representing NTEU

The Library Committee currently has one standing Sub-committee, the Collection Development Sub-committee. The Sub-committee performs at a strategic level to ensure that Collection Development at Rhodes University remains a collaborative partnership between the user community (represented by appointed members) and the Library Services Division.
