Basic Conditions of Employment Act (75 of 1997): Various sections are relevant to health and safety, including 9, 10, 15, 17, 22-24, 25-26, 79, 90(3), 92.

Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 130 of 1993: provides for compensation for disablement or death caused by occupational injuries or diseases.

Constitution of the Republic of South Africa 1996): provides for the protection and improvement of the quality of life of all citizens, and outlines the responsibilities of all citizens in its Bill of Rights.

Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998: provides for employment equity, including aspects on pre-employment medical testing, which has implication for occupational health and safety management.

Hazardous Substances Act 15 of 1973: provides for the control of substances which may cause injury or ill-health to or death.

King III Report: calls for corporate responsibility with regard to the impacts of its decisions and activities on society and the environment, including the responsibilities outlined in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution, and issues relating to human rights, sustainable development, social capital, safety and health.

Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995: Section 84(5) is relevant to health and safety.

National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act 103 of 1977: promotes uniformity in the law relating to the erection of buildings and building standards, including reference to SANS 0400 which covers facilities and safety features of buildings.

National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998: provides for co-operative environmental governance based on the principles that everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to his or her health or well-being, and enabling the administration and enforcement of other environmental management laws.

National Health Act, 2003 61 of 2003: provides a framework for a structured uniform health system.

National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute Act 53 of 2008: provides for the establishment of a National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute to manage radioactive waste disposal on a national basis.

Safety at Sports & Recreational Events 2 of 2010: provides measures to safeguard the physical well-being and safety of persons and property at various events held at stadiums, venues or along a route.

Standards Act 8 of 2008: the act governing SANS (SA National Standards) - previously known as SABS codes.
