The AWaRMN flag has been flying high at Makerere University in Uganda having been recently selected for a site visit by an evaluation team from the African Union (AU) on the 12th of March 2024. This year Makerere University has been shortlisted for consideration for selection as an AU Centre of Excellence in fisheries and aquaculture.

It was not research as usual for six students MSc students from the Institute for Water Research (IWR) at Rhodes University on February 16 and 17, 2023. The six students, Andrew Ali, Havilah Nnadozie, Esther Seriki, Peter Wasswa, Sakikhaya Mabohlo and Sofia Lazar participated in the 5th edition of the W4F Hackathon organised by the UNESCO ICIREWARD International Centre in Montpellier, France.
