CHERTL graduation 2022!
CHERTL graduation 2022!

by Associate Professor Lynn Quinn

It was a very proud moment to see two CHERTL doctoral scholars stand on the stage while the Dean of Education, Professor Euretha Rosenburg, read their citations.

The audience showed their appreciation for the two candidates as they crossed the stage when the Chancellor conferred on them the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.  Doctor Bella Vilakazi’s thesis is entitled An epistemic justice account of students’ experiences of feedback and Doctor Puleng Motshoane’s thesis is entitled The mechanisms conditioning doctoral supervision in public universities across South Africa.

Examiners of these two theses agreed that the findings of these two research projects have the potential to make a significant impact on aspects of higher education practice. Professor Sioux McKenna, who supervised both of these candidates, was clearly very proud of her students.

Also crossing the stage on Thursday 8 April 2022 were two cohorts of Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education students, one for lecturers and the other for academic development practitioners. A bumper crop of 38 students obtained the Diploma. Thirteen candidates did so with distinctions. CHERTL staff, who taught these students mostly online, were very pleased with their students’ results.

As unusual, CHERTL staff and students enjoyed a celebratory event to mark the achievements of our students.
