The University is committed to identifying and developing research focus areas in broad areas of research strength, and in which we have unique opportunities and responsibilities. The areas are intended to grow scholarly outputs and postgraduate numbers in fields where Rhodes is able to exhibit research strength, research potential, or unique fields of study which would attract scholars and postgraduate students.
A research Focus Area should display the following characteristics:
a) Focus on an area of special or highly developed expertise present at the University
b) Critical mass
c) Potential to produce worthwhile high-quality outcomes.
d) Societal relevance
e) Researchers' track record
f) Postgraduate training
g) Sustainability potential
