After training as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Cape Town (1984), Ann worked as a Clinical Psychologist in the Department of Neurosurgery at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town (1984-1989). She was a lecturer at Rhodes University from 1989 up to her retirement in 2007, with much of that time spent as Director of the Rhodes University Psychology Clinic and Director of the Clinical Masters professional training.  In 1995 she completed a research fellowship in traumatic brain injury at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), under the mentorship of the distinguished Professor Paul Satz who was the supervisor of her doctoral thesis.

Ann has published extensively and is on the editorial boards of the Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, and the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. Her areas of research interest include: concussion in association with participation in a contact sport; and the collection of demographically focused normative data for commonly employed tests of cognitive function.  These norms have been promoted for use in South African clinical and legal contexts by the South African Clinical Neuropsychological Association (SACNA) in training initiatives countrywide.  She is a longstanding executive member of SACNA, contributing to academic issues, research opportunities, training and credentialing.
