Rhodes University hosted the 2023 Eastern Cape Regional Intervarsity Pitch Competition on 17 and 18 October at the Amazwi South African Museum of Literature, which included studentrepreneurs from the University of Fort Hare (UFH), Nelson Mandela University (NMU) and Walter Sisulu University (WSU).

In a grand celebration of educational distinction and pedagogical innovation, Rhodes University once again demonstrated its commitment to exceptional teaching by hosting the 2022 Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award Lecture - a testament to the University’s dedication to recognising and celebrating outstanding educators. The highlight of the evening was the introduction of the recipient of the 2022 Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, Dr Ntethelelo Sibiya.
The Division of Pharmacology hosted a Cipla sponsored Seminar on HIV/AIDS for the Pharmacology IV class on 12 May 2023
The seminar envisaged to provide a holistic overview of the management of HIV/AIDS in the public health care system. This would show the students the important roles played by various stakeholders, that a pharmacist would engage with directly or indirectly in practice. The seminar was gracefully sponsored by Cipla.

Recent PhD graduate awarded University of Toronto Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr Seeprarani Rath, who recently graduated with her PhD degree at Rhodes University, has been awarded a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada, to the value of approximately R800 000. Dr Rath, who submitted her doctoral thesis in 2019, was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Rhodes University Biopharmaceutics Research Institute (BRI) until recently.
Pharmacy Prof commended for hand sanitiser initiative during global health crisis
Professor Rod Walker from the Rhodes University Faculty of Pharmacy has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2021 Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for Community Engagement. He describes this honour as “a wonderful recognition of the many who supported, facilitated and assisted in ensuring the success of the sanitiser project”.

The Faculty of Pharmacy assists with vaccinations, registrations, and misinformation
Earlier this month, the final year Pharmacy students were vaccinated against COVID-19 at the Faculty of Pharmacy, followed by approximately 200 second and third year BPharm students. Pharmacy students were included in the first cohort eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, as they perform Work Integrated/Based Learning in clinical platforms as an essential component of their curricula.
