Nanotechnology workshop awards three Rhodes students

The 8th annual DST/Mintek Nanotechnology Innovation Centre (NIC) Workshop, which took place at Mintek in Randburg, Johannesburg recently, saw three Rhodes students winning awards.

Doctoral student Refilwe Matshitse won second prize for her oral presentation, while Master’s student Nobuhle Ndebele won first prize for hers. Master’s student Aviwe Magadla, received second prize for his poster presentation. The three winning students were supervised by Rhodes’ Distinguished Professor Tebello Nyokong, Dr John Mack and Dr Jonathan Britton.

DST/Mintek NIC is a national facility, established in 2007 with the goals of undertaking and coordinating research activities. Collaborating with Rhodes University, University of Western Cape and the University of Johannesburg, DST/Mintek NIC undertakes and coordinates research activities with the universities in sensors, biolabels and water respectively.

Annual workshops are held for students from each of the three universities to present their current research work.
