PhD thesis title: A comparative study of the syntax of noun phrases in Lesotho Sign Language and South African Sign Language

Supervisors: Ian Siebörger and Mark de Vos

This research examines the syntax of noun phrases in Lesotho Sign Language (LSL) and South African Sign Language (SASL), two sign languages that have received limited research attention in terms of their syntactic structure. Specifically, it investigates the linguistic elements that accompany the head noun, patterns of headedness, and the role of indexing in LSL and SASL noun phrases. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the linguistic properties of these sign languages and shed light on the structural similarities and differences between LSL and SASL.
