Her journey from a one-room shack, shared with her mother and younger brother, to securing a place at one of the country’s prestigious universities is a testament to her resilience and hard work.
Lilitha’s academic journey is marked by significant achievements, including securing first place in the GO IT competition and clinching the third spot at both the Eskom Science Expo and Eskom Science Fair in 2021. These accolades highlight her intellectual prowess and her passion for science and technology. Amidst these achievements, Lilitha faced numerous challenges, including the lack of formal electricity in her community, relying on illegal connections, and contending with noise disruptions from nearby establishments. Lilitha has been accepted to study a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Rhodes University, a dream come true for someone who aspires to make significant contributions in science and medicine. While she also applied to other prestigious institutions with an initial interest in medicine, she said: “Rhodes University gave me the best offer, backed by NSFAS funding.”
Lilitha’s mother, Nyameka Masizana, praises her daughter's accomplishments.
