Ryan Hancocks is the Director of the South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economics Journalism at Rhodes University and the Deputy Head of the School of Journalism and Media Studies. Ryan develops financial journalism-based curricula and facilitates economics journalism and financial market training at Rhodes University, he also offers master’s level study in monetary policy through the Rhodes University Economics Department. Ryan has been Director since 2016 and continues to provide a specialist level of training at tertiary level for NQF 8 and up qualifications, while consulting with leading corporate partners in the financial and media sectors on staff training and policy development initiatives on the African continent. Previously, he worked at a senior level for Media24 and MSCI Inc. His core focus is on the development of transformational journalism in the financial media space, with research that looks to incorporated community media in Africa and its ability to facilitate financial inclusion and education.
