David Mfitumukiza is an academic in environmental systems change analysis and management with over 15 years’ experience including working with local government as a District Environment Officer.
His research, teaching and practice cover: Spatial-temporal environmental systems analysis; Adaptive and transformative leadership for environmental change management; Locally-led, community-based and ecosystem-based adaptation; Socio-ecological resilience, among others.
David’s experience ranges from working as a technician to management and leadership of programs and projects. He has worked on various training and capacity building efforts focused on environment/natural resources and development linkages including integration of climate change, land use planning, and geographic information systems in government development plans. His work also covers integration of climate change knowledge in university, secondary and primary education.
He has been involved in various mirror committees on environmental standards with Uganda National Bureau of standards since 2009. He is the Lead for the community-based and locally-led adaptation program of the Least Developed Countries Consortium on Climate Change.
David is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Geo-informatics and Climatic Sciences at Makerere University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
