The Centre for Social Development

The Centre for Social Development celebrated the astonishing achievements of two colleagues, Ms Johanna Muroa who serves as a BEd Coordinator, and Ms Tabisa Booi, the Funda Wande () and Coordinator for the Advanced Certificate programme.

Below are some of the questions we asked them about the exciting achievements, and future study plans:

Tabisa

  1. Highlight of My Graduation
The highlight of my graduation was being surrounded by my loved ones and feeling the immense support from everyone who attended. It was a wonderful reminder of the journey I’ve completed and the people who have been part of it.
  2. What This Qualification Means to Me, My Family, and My Students
This qualification is a significant milestone. For my family, it’s a source of pride, a fulfilled promise to my late father and encouragement for my community.  For my students, I hope it’s an inspiration that learning never stops. Personally, it’s a testament to my commitment to education and my passion for helping teachers achieve their full potential.
  3. Benefits to My Work at CSD
This qualification equips me with fresh insights and skills that I’m excited to integrate into my work at CSD. I believe it will enhance my teaching methods and enable me to contribute even more effectively to the program, hopefully benefiting both colleagues and students.
  4. Plans for Further Studies and CSD Support
I do have aspirations to further my studies, as it is part of my employment contract . When I pursue this path, I would value CSD’s guidance and any opportunities for support, whether through resources, mentorship, or advice on navigating the journey ahead from those who have walked and are walking the PhD journey.

Johanna

  1. What was the highlight of your graduation?

Holding my Master's certificate in my hands for the 1st time!!! This was just a confirmation that it is done...I've made it!

  1. What does this new qualification mean for you, your family and your students?

This qualification opened doors for me. I'm a coordinator today because of this qualification. Even better, it gave me the confidence to engage with students as I provided recent developments in inclusive education.

  1. In what ways do you think the qualification might benefit your work at the CSD?

The CSD has been growing with the number of student enrolments recently. Having staff that is qualified and knowledgeable about the classroom challenges is key. I'll be able to support and encourage teachers to implement inclusive education in their practice drawing from my study.

  1. Any plans to further your studies? If so, how might you be supported by the CSD?

PhD is loading :)

CSD can support me by giving me time for studies where possible, e.g., when I need to go for a writing retreat or attend conferences.
