Donica Walton

Donica Walton is a PhD candidate and Rhodes University veteran, having completed most of her qualifications at the institution. Her PhD thesis will explore how antenatal nurses address intimate partner violence and alcohol use during pregnancy. Her research is supervised by Professor Tracey Feltham-King and co-supervised by Distinguished Professor Catriona Macleod.

She was a member of the CSSR from 2020 to 2021 completing her Masters by Thesis titled: the narratives of women in South Africa who use social media to talk about Gender-Based Violence. The thesis was also supervised by Tracey and Catriona. During this time, she also submitted a blog: conversations about pregnancy, which is available on the CSSR website(/criticalstudies/blog/conversationsaboutpregnancy.html)

She completed her Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology and Sociology in 2018 and Bachelor of Social Science with Honours in Psychology in 2019 at Rhodes University. Her mini thesis in honours was supervised by Ms Yanela Ndabula and titled: women who use and discontinue using long acting reversible contraceptives in the global south. 

In 2022, she completed the B. Psychology Equivalent in Psychometry at the University of Johannesburg before registering with the HPCSA as an Independent Psychometrist.
