Adedotun Makun
Adedotun Makun is from Lagos Nigeria. He is a studio artist and completed an MFA at Rhodes University with distinction in 2012. He completed his first degree at the University Of Benin in Nigeria where he obtained a BA in Fine and Applied Art in 2000. Specialising as a painter and full-time studio artist he has participated in a number of exhibitions in Nigeria, including the following; "Romance with Iliad" - Wangboje Gallery - Pees Galleria (1999), "Women and War" - Goethe Institute, Lagos (2001), "Colours of Life" - Nicon Noga Hilton, Abuja (2006), "International Art Expo Nigeria" - National Museum, Green House Gallery (2009) and "Treasures of Benin" (2009) National Arts Theatre Lagos, Nigeria. His MFA research at Rhodes titled, "International Passports: Portraits of the Nigerian diaspora", considered the concept of identity in diaspora and explores the work of Yinka Shonibare and Kehinde Wiley in relation to his own portraiture practice. He is currently living and working in Lagos, Nigeria. His MFA supervisors were Prof Simbao (theory) and Tanya Poole (practice).
