Winniefred Naluzze
Winniefred Naluzze is a PhD candidate and a member of the NRF / DST SARChI Chair Geopolitics and the Arts of Africa and Global Souths Research Programme at Rhodes University, Makhanda, South Africa. Her research examines how disabilities can reconfigure space and the dominant ecologies of power while destabilizing perceptions and portrayals of 'normality' in Uganda's society and contemporary art.
Naluzze holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Fine Arts (BIFA) and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts (MAFA) from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. During her M.A., her interest was promoting inclusivity as reflected the thesis entitled, "text-iling activism, challenging exclusion: textile design as a device to challenge the deep-seated stereotypes and stigma appropriated to children with autism in Uganda".
Naluzze drew inspiration from the stigma and stereotypes [devices] used to identify, define, and confine children with autism in society in Uganda. Her research interests are art as activism, social justice, and inclusion.
